You Get ONE SENTENCE ✍🏽

When I go to conferences and events, I talk to a lot of people.

Everyone I talk to, I ask them some form of, “what are you gonna do now, as you’ve gotten all this information and inspiration from the event? What’s next”

People answer.

What’s funny is, their answers are RARELY about something new they learned at the event we’d just attended. It’s something that they already knew about / had told themselves to do… but simply had not done.

I’m on my college’s alumni email list. Every month they send a bland email sharing campus news, celebrate a graduate who got a new job, pitch requests for donations, and ask alumni to get involved with present-day campus activities.

There’s one other part of the email I always read: The death announcements.

It’s titled “In Memoriam,” and it lists a name, year of graduation, and death date.

There’s one in the latest issue. The guy graduated in 1979 and died September 1, 2023.

Assuming he was 22 when he graduated college, this man died in his mid-sixties.

His whole life, sixty years, reduced to one sentence.

That’s it.

ONE SENTENCE.

But his family had a funeral for him. That’s a lot more than one measly sentence, you say.

I’m sure they did.
