They Refused To Sell Me A Suit 😡👔

I wear a suit at least 5 days a week.

But let me tell you a story about suits and opportunity. This story explains why people who want to advance miss their chances every day.

There’s a popular store called Suit Supply. They have a store in Miami amongst 150 worldwide locations.

I strolled in on a Sunday morning. No suit on this day; just a white tee, basketball shorts and Jordan sneakers.

There were eight salespeople working the floor. One of them came up to me. He’d recognized me from my basketball videos on YouTube. We chatted for two minutes about basketball and what he was up to now. We took a selfie, shook hands and he walked off.

I stayed in the store, looking around at the clothing.

No one approached me. No questions about my suit size, preferred cut, or why I’d entered a damn suit store in the first place.

I walked out, having purchased nothing.

Suit Supply is retail sales. The staff is on commission (ie, every sale you make = more money in your paycheck). No one attempted to sell me anything.

I suppose the staff saw my Jordans, white tee and shorts and profiled me as a non-buyer of suits 😑.

Every salesperson on that staff, if asked if they want to make more money, would answer YES.

But with an active buyer in front of them, disguised as a non-buyer, no one even tried.

[If I’d walked in their suited-up, I would’ve had to fight the sales people off of me. You see, everyone shows up for what looks like an easy opportunity.]

These situations happen every day to people who say they “never have an opportunity.”

I’m in sales. I treat every person I talk to as if they will buy, until or unless they tell me they can’t or won’t buy.

Even if, on their application, they say, “I have no money,” I talk to them as if they have money.

Everybody is a buyer if you treat them like a buyer!

A true salesperson turns browsers into buyers.

I wasn’t planning on buying a suit at Suit Supply that day. But I could’ve been sold one if someone had tried.

A non-salesperson turns potential buyers into the story I just shared.

The point: Opportunity is all around you. It’s not always a flashing sign. Sometimes you have to pull its mask off to see it for what it truly is.

Whoever does this, gets the benefits.
